Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Tattoo Removal
Tattoo ink lives in the dermis, the layer beneath the surface that doesn’t shed, making it permanent. Our Enlighten III device emits quick pulses of energy into this deeper layer.
Once the light enters the dermis, it converts into heat, which shatters ink deposits into tiny particles without damaging the surrounding skin. Your immune system then flushes out the fragmented ink, gradually removing the tattoo with each session.
Treatment can be uncomfortable, but at JK Med Spa, our physician-led team takes extra precautions to minimize pain. We apply topical numbing cream before your treatment and use advanced picosecond laser devices, which offer more precise treatment with less pain. Unlike older, heat-based lasers, our Enlighten device uses photoacoustic energy, which is more gentle on your skin.
Tattoo removal is a gradual process, and your timeline depends on when you got the tattoo as well as its color(s), size, and depth. Black ink fades faster, but colorful tattoos may require more treatments.
Most people achieve the best results after completing 4 to 8 sessions, each spaced several weeks apart. When you come in for your consultation at JK Med Spa, we evaluate your tattoo to provide a detailed estimate.
While you can return to most activities right away, your skin needs time to heal. Expect mild redness, swelling, or tenderness for a few days after treatment. Limiting your sun exposure before and after your appointment reduces your skin’s sensitivity, making your treatment and the healing process more comfortable.
Afterward, apply a cool compress to the area to minimize swelling, and continue to avoid sun exposure. You’ll notice your tattoo gradually fade with each session, and most of our clients see final results within 2 to 6 months.
